A resort-style home complemented by a curated landscape and sweeping bay views

Winner of the 2017 Mosman Design Awards

This contemporary family home is positioned amongst subtropical gardens with sweeping views to Beauty Point. Unlocking the potential of this site involved redesigning the kitchen, formal and informal living areas to create bright new open plan layouts, taking full advantage of the orientation to both the harbour and the private outdoor living areas to the back.

The landscaping strategy centres on a spacious lawn surrounded by retaining walls with planter gardens and built-in seating, integrating the indoor with outdoor areas.

The new roof with deep projected eaves responds to the western orientation, ensuring glazing is protected and creates usable outdoor space with opened views towards Beauty Point. In addition the redesign improved the children's bedrooms, increased the master suite and created views from a large new external terrace.

The result is a comfortable and livable home adaptable to a modern lifestyle. The design has maximised the benefits of its location whilst being sympathetic to its neighbours and context.

“This project comprises the extensive replacing and physical reconfiguration of an existing late twentieth century house of previously unremarkable character. The outstanding feature of the existing house was its location, with extensive views to Middle Harbour and a relative large rear yard.

The architect has unlocked the potential of the previously enclosed and compartmentalised house to take advantage of both the view and the amenity of the rear yard and connected both with light and airy open planned living areas on the ground floor, achieving a very likable home suited to the needs of the owner’s family” - Mosman Council.
